FPL GW 28 Wildcard Team
Published: February 24, 2025
Fixtures Report
Let’s start by checking out the current state of fixtures in order to understand the player picks in our GW 28 Wildcard Team.
The focus is of course on the incoming blank gameweek 29.
Attacking Fixtures
These are best ten attacking fixture runs:
It is Liverpool, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace who blank in 29.
This is unfortunate as all but Aston Villa have very nice fixtures around the blank!
In this team we will attempt to balance having the optimal team for 28 but also being well set up for the future doubles.
It is also important to keep in mind that Newcastle is predicted to have a double gameweek in 33 as well as 32.
Defensive Fixtures
These are the best ten defensive fixture runs:
This paints a similar picture as the best attacking runs. Manchester City’s defensive assets are definitely becoming interesting going forward.
Goalkeepers
Enough fixture talk, let’s get into the team!
In goal we have Sels (5.0) of Nottingham Forest. They have one of the best defences in the league and great fixtures coming up.
On the bench we went for Valdimarsson (3.9) for budget reasons. Feel free to upgrade him to a playing keeper if you have the cash to spare.
Defenders
Leading the defensive line is Gabriel (6.2), Arsenal’s main man. With an xGc of only 0.8 so far this season they are the best defense in the league.
Another essential pick especially going forward is Gvardiol (5.9) of Manchester City. He’s their most nailed defender and has excellent attacking potential.
Alexander-Arnold (7.4) is in the team despite Liverpool’s blank in 29. With Liverpool being one of the top defences in the league and his superb attacking output he should not be missed, and is worth keeping on the bench for 29.
Ait-Nouri (4.7) has been a solid performer for a while now, and with Wolverhampton’s fixtures turning for the better he should give you plenty of future returns.
Sitting out this gameweek is Hall (5.0) of Newcastle. His offensive performance has been strong so far, and with the doubles coming up he will do very well for the price.
Midfielders
The two Bournemouth midfielders are Semenyo (5.7) and Kluivert (6.0), who is on penalties. They have solid fixtures in the short term, and, most importantly, are not blanking in 29.
Salah (13.7) is of course still not to be missed in any team. With possibly the best fixture you could possibly have (against Southampton at home) in 29 this is not the week to get rid of him.
The same goes for Palmer (11.1). While Chelsea as a whole has not been performing great lately, Leicester at home will be the perfect opportunity to find form once again.
Nwaneri (4.6) will provide much needed backup in gameweek 29.
Forwards
A soon to be template pick, Cunha (6.9), is the first of our front two. Having an absolutely incredible season and being in very strong form, combined with the most favourable fixtures in the near future, he 100% has to be a part of the team.
Wood (7.2) will start despite a slightly intimidating fixture against Manchester City. They have been poorly defensively in recent matches however, so there’s no reason why Wood shouldn’t put a goal or two past their shaky backline.
There in case of emergency is Wissa (6.4) of Brentford, who has a decent fixture against Bournemouth away in 29.
Conclusion
And that’s it for this week!
